Lotte Dolezalek's work (click here for more on Lotte and her work)  reflects her fascination with the human face - whether she stylizes it in her masks or whether she plays on distinct features in her portraits. She chooses the garden as a stage setting with flowers, shrubs or trees as partners or decoration.

The Barock gardens of her German background have left their imprint together with her wide range of studies in the humanities with emphasis on modern philology, art history, and cultural anthropology. She obtained a master's degree from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany; she also holds a degree in library sciences.

As an artist, she has been working over a decade with Jolande Goldberg of "The Studio Free Form", building fountains and garden sculpture. Their joint work in terra cotta, stoneware, and bronze has been widely exhibited.

A two-year stay in London, England (1989-1991) allowed her to further pursue her study of the European gardens with emphasis on the Italian gardens of the Renaissance.

Since 1995 Dolezalek has been working with Rodney Foss of "All Thumbs", a Norfolk Garden Design Group, in developing new concepts of integrating stone and terra cotta in fountains and small terraces. Work has been on display in three consecutive Norfolk Flower and Garden Shows.

Dolezalek recently completed a large mural commissioned for the Mount Vernon Hospital in Fairfax County.
